The Importance of Communication

The wolrd has truly become a place without borders.  Technology allows us to communicate instanlty with others half way around the world, and we integrate with diverse cultures in our every day lives.  This is particularly evident in our classrooms where a variety of children from different social backgrounds, religions, cultures, and ethnicities all come together to learn.  We must prepare our children to become productive citizens in this new global world we live in, and I can think of no better place than the classrroom.  Here we will celebrate everyone's differences: there will be dress up days for the children to celebrate their national heritages, pot luck lunches where everyone brings an ethnic dish, essays will be written about the history of a culture other than your own and checked by someone who is of that culture, field trips to museums, and music days too name a few.  Additionally, languages will be celebrated with cards throughout the classroom identifying things like the clock in different langauges, and the children will learn simple phrases, such as good morning, in other laguages of children in the class.
